As I mentioned, they work on another computer but no my main laptop. When I insert the USB receiver the computer pings to acknowledge it was inserted but nothing happens after that.
On the other computers I've tried, a setup dialog appears on the lower right to show the mouse and keyboard are working. This does not happen with this laptop (tried multiple usb ports). I spoken with co-workers that use wireless keyboard/mouse so it appears policy might not be in play.although I'd like to investigate that side.
