Hello, I've got a problem with the Cypress touchpad on an IdeaPad U410 I have just installed Windows 7 x64 on. The hardware itself seems to be okay - with the generic HID driver provided by Windows I can use the touchpad to move the cursor or left-click by tapping it, both left- and right-click using the buttons underneath, or switch the touchpad on and off by pressing Fn+F6 on the keyboard. However, as soon as I install the Cypress driver (as provided on the Lenovo Web site) and reboot the computer afterwards, the touchpad stops working.

It is shown as present and fully active both under Control Panel ->Mouse and in the Device Manager (two devices - the touchpad proper on the PS/2 port and a Cypress virtual HID device) - but neither the touchpad nor the buttons underneath elicit any response from the operating system. Pressing Fn+F6 does no do anything either. Removing the driver returns the touchpad to the state described above. For the record, there are no additional pointing devices plugged into this computer. Having googled for reports of similar issues, I have found three possible solutions. Unfortunately, none of them has worked for me: - reinstalling the driver - tried several times, to no avail; - installing the driver provided by Dell - exactly the same result; - pressing Fn+F6 until the touchpad finally starts working - gave up after fifty-something repetitions. I would very much appreciate any suggestions what to do next, as I have pretty much run out of ideas and using the touchpad with the generic driver (read: no multi-touch, no gestures and so on) simply will not do for a brand-new piece of hardware.

The system responsible for managing these input drivers is known as the 'X.Org Server' (or 'xorg'), the X windows system used in Linux. It is the base graphical environment for your computer under Ubuntu.
